Guided tour - The Kungsholm FortressAddress: Kungsholms Fort, 370 45 Tjurkö Show map
Address: Kungsholms Fort, 370 45 Tjurkö
Along with Drottningskär's citadell on Aspö, the two fortification has kept an eye on the inlet to Karlskrona for more than 300 years!
By order from the king, Karl XI, the Swedes started building something on a small islet out in the archipelago, that one day would amount to the fortification known as Kungsholms Fort. The king gathered his men from nearby regions, soldiers from Småland and Östergörland and sailors from the navy were all recruited to work as construction workers on Kungsholms fort.
Kungsholm fort is still in use to this date as a part of the Swedish defence and has been so for over 300 years. The strange " round harbour" out on the fortress has become something of a symbol for Karlskrona as a UNESCO World Heritage. Out on the fortress, you will also find an astonishing beautiful garden with plants and trees from all over the world. The garden is a result of the militaries man journey to different countries, from where they've brought back an interesting plant or two.
Out on the island, you will also be able to find an old museum which mirrors the great fort's historical progress.
The tour starts off with a boat trip in the archipelago out to Kungsholms fort, from Fisktorget in Karlskrona.
The guided tour is available as a regular tour during the summer season until 29th of August.
