World Music is a term that appeared in the early 60's and was renewed in the late 80's.
The music professor and "ethnomusicologist" Robert E. Brown tried in the 60's to convince the world that music should be at the forefront when it comes to promoting understanding between different cultures. What is particularly important, according to Brown, is the mix of music: the audience can hear and learn to play "foreign" music. He, according to his colleagues, had a strong vision that music could contribute to world peace. This year's spring concerts present our version of World Music.
