9 begins by the hearing impaired Cai Glover gently taking off his hearing aid and during the following hour we meet the challenge of shaping the language of silence.
With choreography inspired by sign language as well as ballet on both feet and toes, Canadian Cas Public's dancer takes on the ninth symphony. A work written after Beethoven lost his hearing. The monumental grandeur of the orchestral works is crackling, the scene is crowded with chairs, just too small for an adult to sit on, a radio-controlled car buzzes around and a magnificent opera singer makes an entry on stage to allow his voice to flood the gesturing dancers. An intense and energetic journey where the boundaries of silence are thrown away and the language of the body takes over.
